Dr. Joseph A. Dasaro

Dr. Joseph A. Dasaro received a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1970. While at Penn, Dr. Dasaro performed research in the area of advanced navigation systems as part of the Moore School System Engineering Group. From 1976 to 1995 Dr. Dasaro managed the U.S. Army digital avionics systems research and development efforts. At the time of his retirement in 1995 system products from his research and development efforts were in 13 different U.S. military aircraft. Dr. Dasaro was instrumental in the use of “conceptual prototypes” for system requirements definition. The U.S. Army UH-60 STAR (System Test-bed for Avionics Research) was developed under Dr. Dasaro's supervision and was used in the development of system specifications for many of the current fleet of military helicopters.

Dr. Dasaro began his affiliation with Rutgers University in 1969 as an Adjunct Professor in Mathematics and Computer Science. He also was a Continuing Education Lecturer at the University of California/UCLA from 1982 to 1987 in the area of Helicopter Avionic Systems. Upon his retirement from the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center, Dr. Dasaro was appointed Associate Director of the Rutgers University Center for Advanced Information Processing (CAIP).

At CAIP Dr. Dasaro was responsible for transfer of Rutgers developed  intellectual property to the approximately 20 corporations that sponsored CAIP research. In addition, Dr. Dasaro participated in Rutgers University High School Outreach and was instrumental in establishing and organizing the New Jersey FIRST Robotics Contest for high school students. He also participated in the administration of the North Jersey Junior Science Symposium.  Dr. Dasaro started lecturing in Engineering Ethics in 2009 as part of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam Review Course. He has also lectured as part of the undergraduate course in Engineering Ethics in the Rutgers School of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
